Twenty Stories of Slow Movement, Quiet Breath, and a Still Mind
What if slowing down was the most powerful thing you could do?
The Qigong Way is a collection of twenty short stories, each paired with a guided reflection, organised around the Five Elements of Chinese philosophy and medicine: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water. Together they trace a complete inner journey through the seasons of the body and the year.
Each story follows one person through one small, ordinary moment. A woman sells her childhood home and finds the thing she didn't know she'd been holding. A child watches bamboo bend in a typhoon and not break. A man floats in winter water before the sun has risen. None of these moments is dramatic. All of them turn on a single, almost invisible shift: the moment a person stops forcing and something, quietly, changes.
The reflection prompts that follow each story invite you to bring that same quality of attention into your own life and body — not as a worksheet or a meditation instruction, but as a living question to carry with you.
For anyone who practises qigong, tai chi, or mindful movement — and for anyone who has ever felt the difference between going through the day and actually being in it. Includes 20 stories and 20 guided reflections, organised by the Five Elements.
James Lin lives in Taipei where he has practiced Qigong since childhood, learning from his grandfather. He is the author of The Qigong Way Series.
